Healthy Life Tips from Goh

Hello everyone! My name is Goh San and I have been working in Ohana International School for almost 11 years. People always ask me what’s my secret to being very happy and energetic... that I still get to play with the wonderful, energetic and cute kids at Ohana. I will share with you some of the things that I do that help me always be positive, energetic, and happy!

Every morning when I wake up, I always feel thankful for another brand new day that I get to live life... that I am in a healthy condition, I enjoy the things that I do and get to eat the food that I like. It is important for me to have this kind of thankful thinking because it helps me appreciate more  the things that I have and the people around me.

Afterwards, I spend 15 minutes to do some stretching... I stretch my arms upwards, bend my upper body side to side and make my core strong. Stretching makes me feel lighter...a good feeling that I love. After stretching I take a shower which makes me feel refreshed and this lifts my energy up! I am ready for a brand-new day! After I shower, I prepare my food for breakfast. I often eat grilled fish, miso soup and pickled vegetables. A light, simple but very satisfying breakfast to make my tummy full.

After I have finished eating breakfast, I listen to some enjoyable music that puts me in a good mood while I get myself ready, depending on my schedule for the day. On some days, I go to Ohana to work and play with the very cute children. I enjoy playing with them and watch them grow and learn. On some days, I spend my time doing volunteering work for elderly people. I go to their house around my neighborhood to do some errands for them like grocery shopping. I enjoy grocery shopping for them because it is one of the things that makes me happy! It also makes me happy that I get to help other people!

On other days that I don’t have any appointments, I go out for a long walk...almost all around the whole Minato City! I enjoy long walks and have been doing this for more than 20 years. It makes my legs strong and it’s a wonderful feeling to be able to go to places and see things that one may often miss if riding a car or bus.

I enjoy eating a lot of things! I like to eat everything but make sure that I know when and how to eat just enough. Eating, exercising, and sleeping well are important! It makes me feel refreshed, relaxed, and energized! I go to ballet classes a few times a week and go out to meet friends and enjoy their company. I feel happy sharing a meal with a friend and just talking about a lot of things. Taking a hot bath when one is tired is also important! It relaxes the muscles. I try not to worry too much! Of course, there are some things that we need to worry about but it is important to always know that we need to do something about it. It is not nice to just keep on worrying! We need to solve problems in order to move on.

Watching soccer games also makes me feel excited! I like games where the famous David Beckham gets to play in! It is also nice to do the things that we enjoy doing to lighten our feelings and emotions! It makes us happy and satisfied.
