Today We Dream

about living and learning, and filling our lives with children and their future.

John:

This is my attempt to write a poem this time,

It’s something that I am not used to do,

You can ask me to sing, you can ask me to draw

Writing is something that I have to think through.

As we end the school year, getting through life as it may,

We experienced positives we all shared together,

Being with the children so bright and full of love,

There’s nothing more that we could ask for because we know they’re more than enough.

Ohana is a place of comfort for children,

They are the center of our profession,

The families as well without a doubt.

We say our thank you whether you’re near or far.

Ending the year with a smile

That is deep in our hearts.

Next, our director whose passion for children is insurmountable.

Heed her words as she’s eloquent and wise,

In early childhood education, her philosophy reaches our very soul,

Listening to and reading her words our lives will forever grow.

Shelley:

My poems as you know always seem to rhyme,

And I am always able to find the time,

To gather my thoughts and create a work of art,

That expresses my feelings which come from the heart.

This year has filled me differently from before,

As I have felt pressured to deliver in a world in uproar.

Continuing to be limited by Covid-19,

We lived and learned with a lot that was unseen.

We tried to find ways to enrich our lives.

And not feel resentful by the lack of high 5’s.

Ohana filled each day as it always seems to do,

And it was here that we were able to easily get through.

Our days were rich in energy, love, and joy,

From colleagues, families and every girl and boy.

We learned and we played, and we laughed, and we cried,

And some teachers farewelled, dear loved ones who died.

There is loss in each day and there is gain for us all,

And we can all stand proud, and we can all stand tall.

We thank you for sharing this past year with us.

We would like to say “bye” without too much fuss.

Have a great summer wherever you will go.

Be safe in the world, that we truly do not know.

One day we will hug and see family from afar,

In the meantime, Ohana, is our bright shining star.
