Making Learning Visible- the Ohana Way
When you come into the classroom, and see us playing with your children, with clipboard in hand, and a phone in the other, it only means one thing- we are observing whatever we can from your child: from the way they play, they interact with each other, the way they interpret “provocations” we have set up. A “provocation”, in Reggio Emilia, as simply put, is something that “provokes” the child’s thinking, discussions, and ideas. We then document what we see, as it is a window- or a door- that your child leaves for us, letting us take a peek into their thought processes.
I would like to share my final exam last semester for my course for University of the Philippines (I am currently on the road to obtaining a second degree, so help me God). I have interviewed my fellow teachers and picked their brain on their thoughts about documentation, and what we apply in Ohana International Preschool from what we learned from the “Making Learning Visible” course we took from Harvard University. We would like to hear your thoughts, too, and how we can all take part in our learning community.
